Dear Friends,
We grow up and we forget about the importance of play. Our first morning on retreat in Costa Rica, our group took a hike down to the black sands of Ostional Beach at the base of our retreat center where some did a beach yoga session, others walked along the beach, and still others played in the ocean waves. Those of us who were doing yoga finished up our session, and many joined those in the water to play in the surf and enjoy the ocean. As we were in the water, floating around and enjoying the mild ocean temperature, our eyes caught sight of something moving in the waves. Just as the waves crested and began their journey to the shore, we saw a school of manta rays surfing the wave. Over and over we would see these creatures, swimming and playing in the waves. Taking the time to play is so important, and something we set to the side with our busy adult lives and responsibilities. But just as those manta rays prioritized play in their day, so we too should slow down, take a pause and see play as important. My dear friends, can we find a little more time in our busy weeks to pause and play a bit. Can we prioritize time to play in our days and weeks? Can we see the importance of it in our own lives? I hope you have a playful week, my friends. Love Krista

Dear Friends,
Every so often it’s important to just go it alone. I talk a lot about connection and community here, and I think both of those parts of life are so very important. But once in a while, or for some more often than once in a while, it’s important to go it alone. Last weekend when I went in search of snow, I went alone. Yes, I could have found others to go with me, but it just felt right to spend some time by myself, to make the long drive with only my thoughts, and to spend time in the world around me with no other distractions. It felt good to adventure by myself. There are times and spaces in life where we need the support of those around us, where we need to be lifted up by our people, where we need to find our community. And there are other times in life when we need to get to where we’re going alone, where we need to walk by ourselves, where we need to find peace and contentment in our own wonderful company. My dear friends, whether you are walking with others this week, or you need to go it alone, I hope you can see what wonderful company you are. I hope you have a beautiful week, my friends. Love Krista Dear Friends,
Opportunities don’t always fall in our laps, sometimes we have to go searching for them. As you might have guessed, I am a sucker for snow and winter. This winter has been lovely, with fabulous adventuring opportunities, but in terms of getting out in the snow, the opportunities have been few and far between for me. This past weekend, since I hadn’t been able to get out cross-country skiing very much this season, I hopped in my car and drove up to a park in Pennsylvania, as the park website said it had 7 inches of snow on the ground. It was just a fabulous morning of skiing. Full disclosure, the conditions were terrible…it was pretty much a sheet of ice with a titchy-tad bit of snow on the top. The conditions were way too fast for cross-country skiing, and I really didn’t want to fall because it was so hard and icy. Even so, the trees and the silence, me and my skis and nothing else…despite the less than ideal conditions, I had a lovely time. As I was skiing and thinking about making the trek up to Pennsylvania in search of snow I was thinking about how sometimes in life opportunities just fall into our laps, and that’s great, right? But more often than not we have to seek out opportunities, we have to take a chance and stretch ourselves, we have to be willing to put ourselves out there even when the act of putting ourselves out there might be a little intimidating. My dear friends, I hope this week we are a little more willing to seek out opportunities for growth and change, even when the seeking is a bit of a stretch. I hope you have an amazing week my friends. Love Krista Dear Friends,
On Sunday I woke up, turned and looked out my window at the tree in my yard, and had the word courage running through my head. This past week was a week of connection...connection with each other, and with the world around us. This past week was also a week where many stepped into fears that they might have been carrying…trying things they hadn’t tried previously and were afraid of, and stretching themselves further. It was really wonderful to witness. As I lay in my bed on Sunday, freshly home from retreat, as the word courage ran through my head, I was thinking about how it takes courage to face our fears, and to walk into places in life that aren’t so easy, that don’t feel normal and routine. It takes courage to connect deeply with others, to be real and vulnerable with those around us. Life takes courage. Showing up takes courage. My dear friends, it is my hope that we all can show up in our own lives with a little more courage this week…with a willingness to step into fears…with a willingness to connect deeply with the world around us. I hope you have an amazing week. Love Krista |
