Dear Friends,
Gardening has always been one of those activities I feel like I should enjoy, but in reality I don’t really. I sure do appreciate a beautiful garden, but do I have one myself? No, no I do not. I was with a client the other day, she needed to get some gardening done and it was her hour to spend, so that’s exactly what we did. I was having a great time digging holes and chatting, and as I did, I was thinking, it’s not that I dislike gardening, it’s that I don’t have time in my life for it. So instead of gardening feeling like a relaxing activity and something I look forward to, it’s a burden and a thing on the list of things that I need to get done. But this particular gardening session was nothing like that…because it wasn’t my garden and it wasn’t my time, it was someone else's garden and someone else’s time, and what a delightful time it was. Later that day I was helping a client think through how to keep showing up to her movement practice even though her life situation has shifted a bit…and, my friend, we were able to reframe some thinking and figure out spaces and we found a way forward even in a changed situation. Sometimes it takes some creative thinking to figure out ways to show up for areas in our lives that perhaps might feel like a burden, or areas that we no longer have the same time or space that we used to. But I think, with a willingness to expand our thinking and think creatively we can continue to show up for those areas in life that might sometimes feel necessary, but not exactly desired. I hope you have an amazing week, my friend. Love Krista

Dear Friends,
I thought that this was the week I’d get back to writing, that I would feel inspired again…but I sit down and nothing comes. Life gets that way sometimes, right? As some of you know, my dad passed away quickly and unexpectedly earlier this month, so fast and unexpected it was a bit like whiplash. I have this laundry list of circumstances, timelines, people, events that I am so profoundly grateful for through this whole experience, and they run through my mind on the daily, but at the end of the day my dad still passed away, and that is really hard. This past weekend my son, some friends and I took the paddle boards and the canoe out and spent a beautiful and delightful day on the water. I thought of my dad as I taught two twelve year olds how to do a c stroke and a j stroke in the canoe like my dad had done for that age group for a lifetime. I told them a joke I had heard from my dad a million times about “high finance canoeing” (you go from bank to bank)...it landed pretty flat because, well, they’re twelve year olds and also, I just don’t tell jokes like my dad did…but no one does. Gratitude and profound sadness at times go hand in hand as we walk through this life. Have an amazing week, my friend. Love Krista Praying
It doesn’t have to be the blue iris, it could be weeds in a vacant lot, or a few small stones; just pay attention, then patch a few words together and don’t try to make them elaborate, this isn’t a contest but the doorway into thanks, and a silence in which another voice may speak. -Mary Oliver |
