Dear Friends,
In regards to movement, I’ve been known to say “find something you like and do it, if you can’t find anything you like, find something you hate the least and do that.” And, you know what, while some will always hate movement, the more we do it the easier it gets, and the more we will have the opportunity to eventually enjoy it…and perhaps, eventually, we’ll be a little more willing to branch out and try new things with regards to movement. One of my students just recently re-discovered the joy of our 10 minute classes. They’re quick, they’re low-commitment, a couple of the times slot into her day with ease, and 10 minutes makes a difference…10 minutes really can pack a punch. My sister faithfully takes my early morning classes, but always has to leave 25 minutes in to get to work on time. Mid-way through class we wave and she exits…and yet, even without the full class, those 25 minutes make a difference in her life. This summer I’ve really been enjoying paddle boarding when I have a few hours to spare. It gets me outside, out of my head, and into the water and nature. I’m sure, once the world gets a little colder, I’ll be back to wandering in the woods…but right now I’m really enjoying being on the water…but, my friends, that’s movement I can do when I have a few hours to spare instead of a few minutes to spare. Wherever you find yourself, whether that’s doing the thing you like, or doing the thing you hate the least. Whether that movement is long and leisurely or a few minutes stolen away, I hope you can find ways to get out of your head, breathe a little deeper and move your body this week. Love Krista

Dear Friends,
I found this adorable little waterfall I hadn’t seen before while paddling around on the Potomac last Tuesday after work. Last week, while on vacation with my family, I was teasing my brother for pumping up his daughter's paddle board by hand instead of with an electric pump. His reply to me was “it’s a way better core workout!”....and, my friends, he is absolutely, 100% correct, it was a way better core workout to do all that pumping himself then to have an electric pump do the work for him. Sometimes those additional steps are the things that we need and want, sometimes they’re great motivation in our day…and sometimes, I think we’ve all probably experienced this, that additional something standing in our way is what holds us back from getting some movement in our day. Let’s be honest, last Tuesday, if all I had was a hand pump and the promise of an extra half hour core workout to pump up my paddle board after a long and tiring day of work I would have just said no thank you and headed home…but that quick working and, more importantly, effortless electric pump allowed me to get out on the water on a Tuesday evening, paddle around, breathe a little deeper, enjoy the world around me and discover some beauty I hadn’t seen before. My dear friend, I hope you can take some additional steps out of your life this week, so you can have an easier time finding movement, breath and beauty. Love Krista Go put a smile on somebody’s face, go tell somebody they’ve got a place in this world, go tell somebody you wanna be friends with them.
Dear Friends, I was at a concert at Wolf Trap a couple of weeks ago…the opener that night had the above mantra they called out at the end of their set that stuck with me as I left the show to go home that night. “Go put a smile on somebody’s face” was the statement that kept running through my mind. I was thinking about that statement as I drove home. I do think we could bring more good, more joy, more light into the world if we showed up each and every day with the intention of bringing more joy to those around us…but the thing that I was really wondered was, how might it change ourselves if we decided to show up each and every day with the goal of bringing a smile to somebody’s face. My dear friend, there are times when life is hard, and sometimes it’s near impossible to show up with the intention of putting a smile on somebody’s face…but I think if we’re willing to try for that intention it can make a difference in the world around us, and in ourselves. Have an amazing, joy-filled week, my friend. Love Krista Dear Friends,
Sometimes the hardest part of our movement practice is showing up. A couple of weeks ago I told you about my lawn, and the faster growth on the side that has access to greater nutrients. We talked about those areas in our lives that can grow and thrive when we’re willing to put in the work and cultivate deeper connections. So too with our movement practices, right? When we’re willing to put in the work, our movement practices can grow and thrive, we can get stronger in our bodies and in our minds. But in order to put in the work, it takes showing up, right? And sometimes that’s the hardest part. My dear friend, I wonder how it might feel to really look at our movement practices, and to think deeply about ways we can make showing up to them a little easier. Perhaps that’s arranging to show up with a friend, or carving out time on our calendars, setting out clothes so we can be ready to go when it’s time. Perhaps it’s finding something you really like to do, so showing up becomes easier and more sustainable. But can we make showing up easier without judgement, so when showing up just doesn’t happen we can acknowledge that we weren’t able to make it happen without judging ourselves. I hope you have an amazing week full of connection, movement, and non-judgement. Love Krista Dear Friends,
It’s that time of year, right? That time of year where life feels a little less routine and a little more scattered. And while it’s often a welcome respite from the routine of the rest of the year, sometimes that lack of routine does a number on our mental and physical state. Sometimes it’s just the little things, like for example this email, it’s going to come out later than it normally does because my routine is off and I didn’t get it done when I normally do. But those little things add up. This change of pace can be lovely, and it can be exactly what we need… But it can also be very agitating and hard on us. So if the change of pace and the change of routine at this time of life is feeling a bit hard for you this week, I hope you can lean into those pockets of beauty and grounding, really noticing those areas. Perhaps spending a little more time noticing a sunset or enjoying time with a friend, maybe finding time to get outside and connect with the world around you. I do think we can find beauty and grounding, even when we are feeling a bit scattered. I hope you find that this week, my friend. Love Krista |
